How Do We Define Community?
Workshop discussion on how we define community. Discuss different parts of Jewish community at large and locally. What has led to so many different subsections of our community? We will also explore how to balance the need for individual more subcategorized spaces with the need to unite as a whole. Join us for coffee/tea and discussion!
What Is Jewish Identity?
What Is Jewish Identity? Join us for a discussion on what elements comprise Jewish identity. We will explore topics such as the crossover between Judaism as a religion and being ethnically/culturally Jewish. We will look into why some consider Judaism to be maternally inherited and explore texts and reasons why this could be considered too restrictive. In addition, we will discuss what the difference is between identifying as a Jew due to birth/blood versus what it means to identify as a Jew in practice. Can one choose the identity of being Jewish? We will host guest speakers including Rabbis from an orthodox, conservative and reform perspectives of Judaism in addition to speakers from the secular Jewish community. Join us for a riveting discussion! Please come with an open mind and heart!
